Animal Collective, Evegeny Yaryshev and The Matrix- defer work

Animal Collective - my girls (2009)

Produced by: Knowmore Productions
Animated by: Jon Vermilyea
Edited/VFX by: Chad Von Nau

above is the video to my girls by animal collective. it has used various techniques in order to achieve the result mainly animation. the music itself is quite experimental by it's receptive electronic simplicity. the simplicity of the lyrics and tune is supported by the video.

though me and my group won't be making our film anything like this music video. i thought it would be a good idea to investigate other various ways of experimental film.

i do like how this video has been put together because it's really colourful and abstract. the members of the group have been completely blacked out except for their lips so you can see them moving and the instruments are the only real and tangible things in the surreality.

Evegeny Yaryshev - ULC

this is a photo i came across on the website ffffound.com and it immediately drew my eye to it. i don't know a lot about this artist other than he is from Russia and this photo is called ULC. i don't know what inspiration fuelled this photograph either. but to me, as i look at this photograph the hands seem to be encasing his head, trapping the guy's head which makes me think that his mind is being trapped or something stopping his mind, in his mind. he looks in distress about whats happening and looks powerless to stop what's happening due to the sheer amount of hands trying to cover him up.

The Matrix- 1999, directed by Larry and Andy Wachowski

the concept of this film i have always found ingenious. it isn't the style of filming thats experimental to me, it's the storyline and the whole film was executed brilliantly. the story of this film is about underground cyber hackers, if you will. and the thought is that the world that we live in, is not the real world at all but that we are all linked up to a computer program called the matrix. these highly talented cyber hackers are 'awakened' to a derelict and destroyed manhattan that is controlled by machines. obviously i won't be trying to recreate anything along these lines as the special effects budget would be unbelievable but again i thought it would good to explore other aspects of experimental.
